There is a plethora of wine awards out there, but we feel that the Decanter World Wine Awards is one of the best. It is the quality of its judging and its global perspective that makes all the difference. A medal from the DWWA really means something and we always slightly hold our breath when getting the results.
At last – The results of the DWWA 2020 are now in. We’re delighted that both the Ambriel Classic NV and the Ambriel English Reserve both won Silver medals, and that the Ambriel Rose 2014 achieved a Bronze medal.
The Ambriel Classic NV scored 93 points and was described as ‘Long and very attractive, with zesty citrus, green apple, fragrant strawberry, raspberry and toast.’ Sounds delicious, doesn’t it.
The Ambriel English Reserve scored 92 points and the judges found it ‘Delicate at first, before really hitting its stride in the mouth, with expressive red apple, peach and sweet berry fruits.’ As this Sparkling wine is intended to go with pudding or cheese, that fruitiness is just perfect as a food match.
Finally the tasting note for the Ambriel Rose 2014 was ‘Aromatic, attractive red fruits, lifted by refreshing acidity and autolytic complexity.’ Its unusual to get a properly matured pink Sparkling Wine, and we love the fact that both the autolysis and the fruit flavours are there at the same time.
So … Huzzah! We’re proud of the wines and gratified that the DWWA liked them too. Now …. which to drink to celebrate?
