We don’t want to be immodest but …. we’ve added to the family silver. A shiny bright new silver medal for our Ambriel Blanc de Blancs 2018 in the world’s toughest and most prestigious Sparkling wine competition: The Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships. We are, of course, delighted.
CSWWC 2023
It was the 10th anniversary of the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships in 2023. The Championships are known as
‘The most respected, comprehensive and rigorous international sparkling wine competition in the world’.
Its troika of eminent judges – Tom Stevenson (known as ‘Champagne’s higher divinity‘), Essi Avellan MW (Finland’s first Master of Wine) and George Markus – taste all the wines every year. All the judges are sparkling wine specialists and all wines are tasted blind. There is no revision of tasting scores to appease famous names here. It is rigorous and honest.
2023
This year it took 11 days to judge nearly 1000 wines from 19 different countries, and 40 distinct regions.
Most competitors come from France and Italy.
ENGLAND’S PERFORMANCE
Nevertheless, despite fewer entrants than some other countries, plucky old England still managed to come third in the global rankings.
We at Ambriel are honoured to have played a small part in England’s success and to be among the 16 English wineries awarded medals.
Huge Congratulations to everyone.
